New Year, New me.

pinned here

I'm not one to make new year resolutions. I'm already losing weight, I don't smoke so I can't say those are my new year resolutions.

Right after Christmas I started thinking about things I want to accomplish in 2012. Some are things I already do but want to do more of and regularly.

1) Donate blood three times this year
2) Get to my goal weight. Before May 12, 2012.
3) Spend time in bible study daily. Reading my Girlfriends in God and Wisdom Retreat email and books, starting with Trusting God.
4) Run a 5k (feb 12, 2012) and two 10k (april 22, 2012 and may 5, 2012)

Yup, I think for right now those 4 sound good.
What are your new year resolution(s)? Leave a comment and tell me.

Scenes from the weekend-Christmas edition

Christmas this year was amazing! I didn't take loads of pictures as I was running around the entire city to see grandparents and enjoying my family all day. I did take tons of mental snaps!

Of course it wouldn't be Christmas without yummy cookies, many self-portraits, going to starbucks to get free coffee from my cousin who was working that night, tracking Santa on twitter, sappy texts and santa pj's.

Traditions were changed this year. Traditions that my little family has been doing since my brother was born were not done this year. And it's not Christmas without tears. Add in one cup of emotions,  1/2 cup of jealousy, a dash of not used to sharing Ryan with Danielle's side of family, stir in 4 hours of sleep and you get big, ugly tears. Maybe I'll share the story later. Or not.

I was so excited to give the gifts I made and bought for my family. I did good this year. Now, let's figure out how to make next year even better!

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!
I'm off for a run, try to burn off those chocolates!

Trust

My good friend Carey has started a month long bible study of the Proverbs 31 wife. Go check her out, even if you aren't married, a church-goer or a mother.

Today's verse is from Proverbs 31:11.
11: Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it. (The Message)

While I am not a wife nor a mother, I a lot struggle with trust. I have the hardest time trusting God. I know God has plans for me, as he has my life time-line laid out in front of him but? Sometimes I want to know what those plans are. For instances, I would love to know if I will ever fall madly in love and get married and of course make beautiful babies. God has said that that he doesn't want people to be alone, it's not healthy he has said. I remind myself of that a lot. Even though it calms my fear and puts my trust back in God, sometimes it's not enough. I have to put my trust in God, because worrying about marrying/kids isn't going to get me a husband or children.

I know that when I spend time with God in prayer, study and listening to songs those fears and the lack of trust goes away for a bit. One of the songs that is dear to my heart is by Jeremy Camp called Everlasting God.
Strength will rise
As we wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord

Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our strong deliverer
You are the everlasting God

The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won't grow weary

Our God, You reign forever
Our hope, our strong deliverer
You are the everlasting God

The everlasting God
You do not faint
You won't grow weary

You're the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles
I don't want to that girl who obsesses over who will she marry and when she will have kids. I want to trust our Lord for all things. I want to be a confident child of God.

happy monday, friends.

spiritual "high"...hope you're around for a while.

I know I talk a bit about my faith and how important it is to me. Making the step to become a Christian is one of the most specials decisions I've made in my life. Being a Christian in this world, in 2011 is pretty hard with things all around me that are tempting and how many people are quick to jump down my throat, or let me know when I've not done the "christian thing"...but so re-warding.

Being a Christian is hard because,  for me, I'm developing a relationship with someone (God) who I can't see. It's like having a bff who you can't see at all and if you listen very closely you'll hear her speak to you. That's where I struggle.

I might come across as someone who has a great relationship with God but the truth is, I go through long periods of time (a couple of weeks, once or twice a year) where my relationship is just "meh" to me. Yes, I still go to church, and believe in God ::during these hard times, I have never stopped believing in god or started to wonder if it all exists::

I remember back in 2006, when I was thinking of being baptised, I was encouraged to talk to the older teens at camp about their Christian faith and ask if they could pray for me. Basically the whole camp knew that I was going to do so I had loads of people saying how proud they were and such. I remember this guy giving me a big hug and saying "sarah, you're going to have such a spiritual high."

Before that I had never heard that phrase and after he explained what it meant, all I could think was "that is so freaking cool!

He was right. For months after that day, I had a spiritual high. Every time I prayed, sang songs, went to church. It was like I was addicted to God and everything God related.

I would say just after Christmas time, the "high" went away. Going to church was boring, it was hard to get out of bed sunday morning. To sum it up, my heart wasn't in it.

Luckily, the "high" came back in april when I went to the youth rally and then at camp in august. This is how its been for a few years. Spiritual high then ::boom:: dropped.

Back in Febuary of this year, the "high" went away. I was angry at God for a reason (which I'm sure if you look back on my posts you'll know what it is) and worship wasn't doing anything for me. I left church each week not feeling "charged" up for the week and uplifted.

Instead of lasting a few weeks, it lasted till may. Then I went out west, there was my aunt, the loving Christian and bible-thumping uncle and they lifted me up that two weeks, it was great. I made sure the high lasted longer and before you knew it, it was camp time, camp was amaizing and good for my relationship with God.

Lately, I've been praying a lot on my own, listening to my favourite worship music and reading the bible.

I'm happy to say that once again my "high" is back!

I hope it stays around for a very long time.

happy sunday!

update/news...whatever you want to call it :)

Good things come to those who wait.
More and more that little saying that I've heard all my life is speaking loud and clear.

Fall 2011 I was supposed to go to Ryerson University where I live,  for Child and Youth Care.
Today, that all changed. Well some of it changed.
I'm still going to Ryerson but not for Child and Youth Care.  I got into my first choice on sunday, Early Childhood Education! I accepted right away and now that's the program I'm in!

I've always planned on being an elementary teacher so this 4 year program is perfect! The Child and Youth Care would have gotten me into teachers college but now my program is tailored to those who want to, no, plan to teach kindergarden- 6th grade.

A little over a year a go when I applied to university's this ECE program was still my top choice but I didn't get in. Somewhere a long the line my marks were lost and weren't given in time to Ryerson. This and along with other situations was why I took off the year.
I waited, around 2 years to get into this program, and it's paid off!
I'm still in disbelief as I let it sink in.
God is good!

happy monday friends!

While I wait

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am hopeful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it is painful
But patiently, I will wait

I will move ahead, bold and confident
Taking every step in obedience
While I'm waiting
I will serve You
While I'm waiting
I will worship
While I'm waiting
I will not faint
I'll be running the race
Even while I wait

I'm waiting
I'm waiting on You, Lord
And I am peaceful
I'm waiting on You, Lord
Though it's not easy
But faithfully, I will wait
Yes, I will wait
I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve You while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting
I will serve you while I'm waiting
I will worship while I'm waiting on You, Lord

I really don't want to get into it here right this moment but I've been having huge pity parties lately. I'm finding this song really helpful while I'm waiting. As humans we naturally want things to go our way and we for sure don't want to wait. I know that those "things" I'm talking about will happen but it's the waiting that is killing me.

happy tuesday
