Kicking weight losses rear

A few days a go I had a friend of mine from camp days message me on facebook saying she didn't know if this was awkward or strange but wanted to know if I had any tips for losing weight because she's noticed that I'm fit and healthy (<best compliment ever)

I know, another fitness related post. Oh well.

I admit, I wrote a novel to her. Honestly didn't mean to but I have so many tips that have worked for me.

1) Make small changes
Make a small change like cutting out pop, eating breakfast, drink water, have a veggie at every meal...well maybe not breakfast, that's hard.

2) Get moving
You don't need a gym to workout. Some people do and like that but be active. It's summer now-go ride bikes, go walk to get that bag of milk. Aim to get 10,000+ steps a day. There are tons of free online workouts videos to do at home too.

3) Write it down
There's a saying my gramma says if you bite it, write it. I found it really handy to write down everything I wrote. It helped me make better choices if I saw a had a cookie at lunch then I knew I really didn't need that pie at dinner.

4) Take measurements
Sometimes the scale won't move-but you're getting smaller and losing mad centimetres but without taking measurements (bust, waist, hips, each thigh and arms) you won't know. Remember, losing inches gets you into smaller sizes.

Making lifestyle changes is a marathon, it takes a while. Trust me. 2.5 years later and 41 pounds lighter, take it 1 day at a time.

It ain't easy

This past weekend I went to a surprise party Karen's mom. Tons of fun and a great time to catch up with lots of people I have't seen in a while.

During the afternoon, I had about 6 different people come up to me and comment about how good I look/ or were astounded with my weight loss and wanted to know what I've been doing.

So I say 'well, I eat paleo about 80% of the time (as I was eating cake) and I've found some really challenging but fun classes at the ymca. ...mostly bootcamp and weight lifting."

I guess some people think I woke up 39 pounds lighter and 10 sizes smaller because during these talks on saturday mostly everyone said something along the lines of how hard working out is, or that they hate veggies or don't have time to join a gym.

Yes, working out is hard. It's not supposed to be easy. I hate veggies too but I know they're good for my body and health so I eat them. And you don't need a gym- I lost most of my weight by eating smaller portions and running a few times of week.

It takes work, folks. Losing weight and changing bad habits is not easy. (Or else everyone would do it)  Cutting grains from my diet was tough but after a few weeks my body didn't crave them anymore. Working out is not easy, my saturday bootcamp class is a killer but it's changed my body so I keep going back.

I feel I'm being a tad harsh but it's in a loving way.

If you want something bad enough, go get it.

Eat better. Go exercise. Better yet-aim to walk 10,000 steps a day. Drink more water. Make one change a week and do that thing for 7 days. Then add in a new thing.

It's hard at first but then it becomes your lifestyle. I used to dread hitting the gym but now I'm there at least 4-5x a week because it keeps the stress down and it's just part of my weekly schedule.
~

As much as I feel I'm touting my own horn- I'm not. I eat junk food, I like cake for birthdays and have days where my makeup looks good and I really don't want to mess it up by sweating. I struggle too.
But I treat myself. I allow myself a treat meal every few days and next weekend I'll probably have a green beer for st. paddy's day.

New Year resolution so far.

We're 4 weeks into the New Year, that's all? Feels longer.

Anyways, 4 weeks into 2014 and hows your New Years resolutions going? Mine for 2014 wasn't anything specific but along the lines of keep eating paleo 80% of the time and working out 4-5x a week.
Oh, hi muscles.
Aside from a little back injury (was doing a HIIT workout earlier this week and pulled a muscle doing a front squat) and not able to go to the gym, I'm doing well. Upping my weight during bodypump and loving bootcamp, so much

Eating paleo is amazingly yummy and makes me feel awesome! My Gramma even texted me this weekend asking about Paleo and if I could share some info about it. I love her and she and my Grandpa need to change their diet. Your only veggie for the day can't be iceberg lettuce.
This. Flavour country. This filled me up for a good 3ish hours. Avocado, egg and bacon. Bake at 185 till egg is at your liking.

Can't contain my excitement for my new heart rate monitor. I neeed something to track my calorie burn at the gym.
As much as I love paleo, I do eat cake and pizza (just not at the same time). Remember, I do have a boyfriend who is not paleo (does enjoy it) and loves his carbs. Everything in moderation and treating myself on the weekend seems to be keeping me on track. No harm.

The State of my Body

Last year, I took charge of my weight and lost a little over 30 pounds with running and weight watchers. Took me about 5 months because I wanted to look great for my brothers wedding in which I was a bridesmaid. And? I did. When my brother got married (this weekend last year) I felt so amazing, beautiful and I couldn't stop looking at the pictures of me that were took.

Then summer came, and I started dating Alex. I gained the "honeymoon 15", but thank goodness it wasn't 15, or even close to that. Right now I'm about 6 pounds heavier than when I met Alex. I still worked out but I wouldn't be focused because I knew I would be meeting him and my mind was else where.

When I started back at school in September I wasn't running as much. School got tougher and I felt that I couldn't go out running for an hour when I had an essay to write. Or when my boyfriend and I were going a date later. Basically, exercising was put on the back burner. Totally my fault.

Then I ran my 1st half-marathon in October and decided I wanted to beat my time so I started training in mid December and ran a 2:07 Half Marathon in February. That was amazing. Even though I was running, that's all I did. No weights to tone or ab workout either. Granted, some days when I ran 12km or more, that was my workout for the day because I had no energy. But the days during the week where I was running 5k, looking back on that I could have pumped out for bicep curls and bicycle crunches. But I didn't. So my legs were strong and had muscles but everywhere else, was flabby.

After my half in Feb, I took 2 weeks off to rest my body, and then running became once a week and maybe the max I ran was 5k. Naturally my body changed and I left it. The scale was sssslllooowwwwlllyy going up week by week. I became unhappy with myself, how I mirrors again how I was back looking at women's bodies saying how much I wanted that. The skinny ones that I once was.

Then I went on vacation last week with my skinny best friend. And every picture I took I had to fight the urge not to delete. Then Karen wanted to take pictures on the beach, when we were in our bathing suits. When I looked at the many she took at me, it took everything I had not to cry on the beach.

I swear thats not how I look. I never thought my stomach looked like this but pictures don't lie.

It became really bad when I started wanting to skip meals on vacation and would rather spend time in the gym and not on the beach or pool. I was so unhappy and still am.
~

I worked so hard last year and now I feel like my habits are back. I feel like I'm letting myself go and I even have looked at women who are very big and thought "I hope I don't look like that at 50+)

I so badly want to get back to that place where I have confidence  in how I look. Where I'm in charge of my weight and food. So, my plan of action now is to make meal plans, do some sort of physical activity every day. I've started running again, ran 14k since sunday and weights are my friends. I plan on biking to summer school classes and go to skin class 1x a week. For food: I want to join weight watchers again to lose 10 pounds (6 that I gained since july 2012 and 4 more for "room.") It worked last year, and I know it'll work again.

I know I'll get back. Back to my "comfort" number on the scale. And the comfort body I once had. Stay tuned.

It's amazing what two years can do.

Before I start, I am alive.

Why haven't I posted in a while? A bunch of things. It's beautiful and hot out so I would rather be enjoying some sangria on a patio than instead of writing blogs that hardly no one reads. Debby downer over here.

That's another thing. I had a little internal freak out a few weeks ago when I posted some very special pictures from the wedding and my awesome speech and what? I got one comment?

I work hard to write a good post and then for no one to say "love it" or whatever, kind of hurts. So, I stopped blogging for a while.

I do remind myself over the past few days that I swore I would only blog when I had something to blog about. One thing I can't stand in the blogging world is when you know a post has been written because that person felt like they had to write for their followers. That's not me.

Second thing I reminded myself is that I blog for me. I do. I blog to write down stuff for memories.

Butttt, some comments and followers would be great! Don't be shy.

Other than that, I've been doing well in summer school. Finished my paper today and it's pretty darn good if I say so myself. Hope I didn't jink it!
~

Yesterday, I was thinking how it's already been two years since prom and grad. Two years! I'm officially an alumni of my high school.

So, I pulled out my photos from prom and was speechless over how much I have changed in two years, more like past 7 months. 30 pounds GONE and 18cm off my hips/waist/thighs all from working out and weight watchers.

June 2010

a) look at that double chin!
b) look how thick I was.

May 12, 2012.
Losing this weight and making a whole new lifestyle has changed my life. I have done things that I would have never done if I was 30 pounds heavier. The confidence I have is 10384% more than 7 months a go.

I can now go up to guys and talk to them. I can tell people to set me with guys because I feel so confident and we all know that guys like girls who are confident.

And now, it's not all about guys but thats important to a girl who never had a boyfriend in high school and didn't have her first kiss till 19. True story.

I can now run 10k and even have signed up for a 15k in August. Amaze-balls because I couldn't even run 2k back in November without dy-ing.

I love that I have inspired family members to start writing down what they eat. I love that at the wedding close family members came up to me and said "I saw you at easter and you looked great, and now you looks amazing, Sarah."  And my cousin Bryan grabbed me and said "since when have you lost weight?!"

sidenote: only have lost about 5 pounds since easter but your body can change when you tone it.

I don't mean to brag, y'all know that. But every time I see pictures from 7 months + a go it makes me cry. I will never stop thanking weight watchers for changing my life. It really has.

I will never EVER go back to that weight. Ever.

Love for weight watchers.

Yes, once again I need to express my love for weight watchers.

On monday morning I got out of bed, went pee and decided to weigh myself. See how much I gained from the wedding. To my surprise I lost 3.6 pounds.

I now have lost 29.2 pounds!

29.2 pounds.  And 18cm from my body.

I remember when I was only at a 7 pound loss, thinking how will I ever get to goal?

But I did. I got to my goal, 7 pounds ago.

Back in October I made a choice to lose this weight for Ryan's wedding. I did not want to be the fat sister-in-law.

On saturday, I had about every single family member of mine come up to me and say how amazing I look and tell me I need to be a spokesperson for weight watchers.

And really, I would not be here without Susan and her sister Katie. Seeing them happy and smaller was my motivation.

Even though I got to goal, I am still working on losing about 5 more pounds.

Weight Watchers has given me so much and from that, I love them.

I did it! I got to my goal weight!!

I should have made this wayyy before. The differences on these pictures are incredible to me. Holy cow.

I have been waiting for this day- the day when I can finally say I reached my goal weight plus two more pounds.

Back in October, I re-signed up for weight watchers in order to make sure I was not the fat sister at my brothers wedding. You can read about my journey here.

My first goal was just to lose weight -anything.

Then I lost my 5% then my 10% and after that I started thinking about a number I wanted to see on the scale. My goal weight. And on saturday- after I brushed the sleep out of my eyes and jumped on the scale I stepped off with the biggest smile because I finally got to my goal weight. I didn't just hit it but lost two pounds of top of that. So technically- I've reached my goal weight and lost 25 pounds.

Even though I reached goal- I want to lose 3-4 more just for some comfort, you know, just when life gets in the way.

I am so happy right now. Hard work pays off guys.

THANK YOU WEIGHT WATCHERS!

Running, I've missed you.

Me? Missing running? Nah, wrong person.

But not.

You see, I actually missed running. My last run was on Wednesday January 11, didn't run on the weekend as I went away and I actually found myself on Tuesday evening missing the joy of running. Did I actually just say that running was a joy?! Who am I?

I say "who am I" because I've been a runner for years but I would go thru this cycle. Run for 3-4 times a week for maybe a month then stop. Stop for no reason.  I wasn't injured or anything. I just got lazy.

I would only start when the weight would creep up.

I started hard-core running on November 23, 2011. That's what my nike+ app tells me. So far I've run 141.6km. That is cray-cray. But good.

So since I missed the pounding of the pavement, I brought my running gear with me to placement on wednesday and instead of rushing home, I laced up.

You should have seen the looks I got from my co-workers. The teacher I shadow even said I was crazy to go out. Non-runners don't understand.

It was nice to go for a nice run. It was really windy out but I managed to run a nice 7k.

Slower than normal, not as many calories as I like to burn but I got out and ran!

And here am I blogging after coming in from a shorter run.

It was crazy snowing tonight, but going out proved am I dedicated.  I'm proud of that. The old Sarah would have said "oh, it's snowing, let's just go tomorrow." Look where that got me before. The new Sarah wouldn't have it.

Back to the grind.

Well here it is. School has started up again for me and thousands of others. I've enjoyed my 5 weeks off. I know, I got lucky. I have so many friends that were lucky to get 2.5 weeks off and had to go back late last week in order to make it back in time.

I'm proud that I accomplished all my goals for the break. I ran 3 and sometimes 4 times a week, more than 5k. I finished Friday Night Lights! Cried like a baby. I gave to charity. I rested.

I had a wonderful few weeks spending time with family and friends. Loved staying up till 2am and getting up a 11am. Loved taking my time to get ready to go out. Loved enjoying one to many beers.

But...

School's back. Boo.

I had a good 1st semester of university. I learned a whole lot. Not just about my field but I learned so much about myself. How I learn. What works and what doesn't. I learned not to be caught up in other peoples issues about organization. I learned that it's okay to take a night off work to catch up on readings and its fine to tell your boss you aren't coming back to Thursday's evening. School comes first. I learned that God will understand if I miss worship on Sunday mornings to write an essay, isn't that why we have Sunday evening worship? I kid.

This semester is a bit different as I have placement in a daycare Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8am-4pm. With a lunch break and two 15 minute breaks! So excited to take a walk during lunch and maybe do some homework too. Meaning classes all day mondays and thursday. Thankfully I only have a tourial on Friday's from 1-2pm.

Enough about my class schedule.

I hope to keep running. After all, running is helping me lose weight. I've already mapped out when I will have the time to excercise. Sadly, I can't do it in my two hour break on Thursdays. I smell really bad after I run.

Is it sad that I'm already counting down the days weeks till I'm done?

weight loss update. and link up.

I know I talk a lot about my weight on here. It's something that I've always struggled with. I remember being in grade 9 and being so down about my weight, being so angry at other girls who were able to eat fast food for lunch and look amazing. Naturally, since my grandma works for weight watchers, I joined. Yup, I was in grade 9, 15 years old when I went on a "diet."

I call it a diet because I was looking for a fast-fix. I didn't put in the work at.all. Needless to say, on and off for the next 3 years  I failed. I tracked only the "healthy" foods, because if you don't track the unhealthy foods it didn't happen would forget to track dinner and yet couldn't figure out why I wasn't losing weight. I would sit in meetings and pout when other people got to their goal weight. I did have times where I gave up. Quit going. Then I would see myself in pictures or the mirror and would start tracking.

I dropped 8 pounds in those years. 8 little pounds. It was so embarrassing when the topic of  me and weight watchers came up in conversation. I hated when people asked how much I've lost and would dread saying 8 pounds (or less when I say gaining.) The looks of surprise hurt. I know people were thinking I was going to say a bigger number.

And I know what someone might say "8 pounds is 8 pounds." or "at least it's going down."

True. But 8 pounds over 3+ years? Absolutely horrible to me.

Over the summer I didn't lose anything. Maybe it was the pizza we ordered or my mindset of "oh hey I biked 4.5k to work so I can have 3 slices of pizza, a pop and chicken wings." I still weighed-in but wasn't happy with the results.

Aug 14,2011.

Then in october something happened. Call it what you will but I "saw the light." I was going to weight watchers meetings every saturday, tracking and doing "well." But the only time I would lose on the scale was when I wore a lighter pair of pants or didn't have a big dinner the night before. I was seriously thinking of quitting again. This time for good. I started thinking about school and how I couldn't take 3 hours out of my saturdays to get up, have breakfast, shower, do hair/make up, drive to weight watchers, actually weigh in, listen to the the meeting and go home.

As I was telling my mom my plan I remembered that Susan and Katie and great results doing weight watchers on-line. I looked into it and on October 29, 2011 I joined ww online.

So far I have lost 13.4 pounds! I have started running like crazy. Since November 23,2012 I have ran 103km (plus a few more from when I was training for my 5k in October) and not stopping.

I've also lost 3.5ish inches from my waist and hips. The jeans are getting loose and I have to wear a belt everytime I wear jeans. My family has noticed changes aswell. Like my uncle on Christmas eve. I was standing across the room and he yells out "hey sarah, you losing weight, thought so, your face looks smaller"

Favourite uncle right there.

I do have to say this. Yes, I do have weeks where I only lose 0.2. I do have weeks that I don't lose at all (happened over Christmas, which is fine!) I do have weeks were I gain 1.8.

It happens. Life happens. Again, it's a lifestyle change. Not a let's lose and gain it all back...and more.

LOOK! I have a waist :)
*this morning*

As we enter a new year, I don't want to stop with this life-style change. My one and only sibling is getting married in May and I want to look hot! It would be so nice for my SIL to set me up with one of her 37 first cousins!

My action plan:
  • continue with watchers online.
  • keep kicking runnings butt
  • run many races this year, starting with...
  • a 5k in Febuary, a 10k on april 22 and an another 10k on may 5
  • add in weight training once a week.

I do have a goal weight and goal measurements  When I get to my goal(s) I will share with y'all. *hopefully it's before may 12, 2012*

What I'm loving and Oh, how Pinteresting

Has it really been a week and a half since my last post?! Sorry for the week hiatus.

Last week at school was my "week of hell." I had two papers due and 3 tests! I didn't have time to blog and even if I did i know you guys don't want to hear me complain about lack of time and such. Thankfully I made it through :) I'm now done classes (last one was yesterday) and I am working on my last assignment due tomorrow by 4pm, an exam monday at noon then I. am. DONE! So excited to sleep in, blog!, watch this season of the biggest loser, enjoy my aunts dog that we are watching this coming week and bake :)

Here is what I am LOVING today!
~I am loving my new SIL to be. She did the sweetest thing. Let me explain.

Usually for Christmas, Ryan and Danielle come down and join my mom's side of the family for Christmas eve. Then they either go back to their house that night or come to my house and sleep over, have homemade egg McMuffins and open presents between us four  five and then leave.

Ryan has missed Christmas dinner at my Grandma's the last 2 years because they have to see Danielle's side of the family. It sucks but we understand. Oh the joys of becoming one.

This weekend my mom asked Ryan what was going on for Chrismas. Are they sleeping over? Going back Christmas eve? Or what!

Ryan told my mom that Danielle said that them two would be spending Christmas eve AND Christmas morning/day with us! She said that since she gets to see her family (Ry and her live 4 minutes away from her parents house) that they see her family all the time. It's only fair.

My mom/dad and me are completely overjoyed at her thoughtfulness. We realize that this won't happen every year but we will enjoy it.

~I am loving that I am done classes :)

~I am loving running :) I downloaded the Nike Plus app and have logged 16.83k since last wednesday!

What are you loving today?

Here are the funny finds I found this week.

So doing this to someone! Pinned here

So much to fill you guys in about!

Linking up today with Cassie from Lowercase Letters.        .

~ I babysat Friday night for the first time in 2 years (I don't count babysitting my cousins who are 8 and 10 babysitting, more hanging out.) When I was 14, 15 and 16, I babysat either every Friday or Saturday night and sometimes both nights! For a 15 year old, making 60 bucks a week is gold!

The boy wasn't...bad  but he screamed at the top of his lungs when he talked and his laugh wasn't a belly-laugh but an ear screeching sound. I didn't want to be rude but I had to tell him to keep it down,  ya know for the neighbours of either side of him...

He was a pain to put to bed. Pulled the "the other sitters let me stay up."  I'm sure they do but this babysitter has been up since 7, had two classes and wants to read her red book magazine. Oh gosh, this makes me sound so lazy. I'm not. And when he said he reads a book before bed...which is fine, I'm not going to say no to a story (I am supposed to encourage reading!) But I didn't know he read.every.little.thing INCLUDING the bar code. After 25 minutes of reading this book and 30 minutes past his bedtime I told him he could finish reading tomorrow.

Maybe I'm a bit rusty. Gotta get back into the swing of sitting.

~ I signed up for a 5k race on February 12, 2012. I got champagne and chocolate at the end :)
AND
I signed up for a 10k on may 5, 2012! So excited to train for a 10k :)
Karen wants to do a 5k in the spring too. She's never run one and I told her if she signed up then I would to! So ya, another race in march/April.

~ I had a great week on weight watchers. Lost 2.2 pounds! Total: 10.4 :) Another 13 pounds and I'll be at my goal!

~ Two weeks today I'll be done school :) The end is rear!!!

Well guys, I have a psych paper that is due at midnight tonigh, gotta get back to working on it!
happy day, friends!
