I've seen this vlog around the blog world a few times so I thought I should try it.
Directions are as follows:
The instructions are to say these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught
And answer these questions:
What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
What do you call gym shoes?
What do you say to address a group of people?
What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
What do you call your grandparents?
What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
What is the thing you use to change the TV channel?
So what do you think? Do Canadians have an accent?

RIP Jack Layton
On monday morning Canada lost a very popular politician named Jack Layton from cancer. Jack was the leader of the New Democatic Party from 2003-2011 before he stepped down to focus on his health. In February 2011 Jack announced he had prostate cancer. He vowed to beat the cancer and said it would not interrupt his duties as member of Parliament or as leader of the NDP. The whole country seemed to have his back. On July 25, 2011 Jack announced that he would be taking a temporary leave from his post to fight an unspecified, newly diagnosed cancer. He was hoping to return as leader of the NDP upon the resumption of the House of Commons in September 2011.
He died monday at 4:45am in Toronto with his family.
When we think the word "politician" good words don't come to mind. Jack changed that. All Canadians, regardless of what political office you belonged too, loved Jack. He was the guy who loved to jam and have a nice beer. He always could be found in local bars when the Toronto Maple Leafs were playing a big game.
Aside from being a great person, Jack was a strong leader for us Canadians. He gave us a voice and made sure we were heard in Ottawa during Parliament.
I might Jack back when I was in grade 8, when the grads went to Ottawa and Quebec for a week long school trip. None of the other politicians came out/gave us a tour of this big building that the debates took place in, except for Mr.Layton. He was that type of person.
While on his death bed Jack wrote a letter to all Canadians. It's a lenghy letter basically saying how much he has loved fighting for Canada. He included a paragraph encouaring those who are fighting cancer and young Canadians who want to work in the government.
At the end of his letter Jack wrote this: My friends, love is greater than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we'll change the world.
This is the kind of man who worked for us. Jack: Thanks for all you did, you will be missed.

Tail wagging tuesday
I'm linking up with C Mae for Tail Wagging Tuesday. I'm sure I talk about my cats on here but never done a post just for them. I've always had two cats in my home while growing up, my mom wanted two so they can keep each company while we are gone for the day. Right now, we have iggy-pop and moggie.
This pretty lady is Moggie. She came into our house in March of 2007. A co-worker of my moms put a note in her mail box about Moggie needing a new home because her owners were moving to mexico for the winter and couldn't take her. The second my mom saw Mogs, she had to have her. Moggie is my girl. She sleeps on my bed all.day.long. She sometimes thinks its hers and hates when I pick her up to take her out of my bed so I can sleep, she usually gives a big loud "meow" at me. She loves when I'm away over night because the bed is all hers! She's the sweetest thing ever. So lovely.
This handsome little guy is iggy-pop. How he got to our home is a bit of a story, stay with me. So last December my neighbour/family friend/pet store owner calls me telling me about this man who came into her store and asked if she knew anybody that wanted a cat. My dad has always wanted a grey cat so Mary called me to tell me about the cat. Since my parents were gone that weekend I told Mary I would call my mom. I called my mom and she said we'll take the cat! How exciting. When my parents got back, my mom called the owner of iggy. Robert (not his real name) needed to get rid of iggy because he didn't get along with Robert's other cat. When my mom asked when she could come get the cat, he started crying. Balling is more like it. My mom knew that Robert wasn't ready to leave iggy so she said she would call back later in the week. My mom called two more times and every time Robert would start getting very emotional, finally my mom said she couldn't keep calling and when he was ready for us to take iggy he should call us. About 3 weeks go by and finally he calls, of course crying, and says iggy needs to leave asap. The next day my mom and dad went to go get iggy. The guy wanted to come to our house and visit iggy once in and while but my mom didn't feel safe about that so she said she would call him and set something up. We haven't heard anything from him since.
Iggy came into our home on Jan 16,2011. He is the sweetest/craziest cat ever! He is very active but loves to cuddle. Iggy also drools. Yes, you read that right. When you pick him and and give him cuddles, he gets so happy that he will start drooling on your shoulder. It's so gross but yet so cute! Love that little guy.
So there are my are two babies.
happy tuesday!

homeowner for the week and other randoms
This week my parents have left me ::cue cry::. Every year my parents love going to Myrtle Beach SC for a little vacation. They invited me a long a while back, but since I was wanting to work as much as possible and going to camp I couldn't. With them being gone I'm left in charge of the house, dishes, garbage, cats and the car. At first I thought it would be easy, ya know feed the cats in morning and before feed, scoop the litter just in the morning, put the garbage out on tuesday and make sure the house is locked and of course don't lose my keys! This is day day four of being a homeowner and I'm hear to say its hard. So much responsibility on my hands. A week left, hopefully the place doesn't burn down!
*
I've continued running a few times a week which is good! I love running at night, around 10pm. For some reason I like running whens its dark out. Strange? yes. But at least I'm out running.
*
Two weeks tomorrow is when school starts! I'm excited but a little nervous to start, which is normal. Glad to be starting the new chapter of my life.
happy monday!

simple things make me happy
Yesterday I had to babysit my cousins Adam and Grace for the whole day. Instead of just watching tv all day, we took a long bike ride back to my house. I can usually make the bike ride in about 10-13 minutes but with them? one whole hour! I did make them walk their bikes across the road and we did stop for water along the way but boy, I was pooped!
*sorry their a bit small!

90 years young plus 60 years together.
Yesterday was a busy day of celebrating my Grandma and Grandpa Hannon.
On August 11, 1951 after 7 years of dating my grandparents got married. And on August 18, 1921 my Granpa Hannon was born. My family wanted to celebrate these two big milestones. After months of planning by both my aunt (alberta) and my mom the day was here. Everything went great, except for the food orders but thats a minor detail. It was great that old neighbours/family/friends from church came to say hi.
Here are some pictures I got.
Such a wonderful day for a wonderful couple.

I am...
I am a Christian
When I say.."I am a Christian"
I'm not shouting "I'm clean living"
I'm whispering "I was lost"
Now I'm found and forgiven
When I say..."I am a Christian"
I don't speak of this with pride
I'm confessing that I stumble
and need Christ to be my guide
When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not trying to be strong
I'm professing that I am weak
When I say..." I am a Christian"
I'm not bragging of my success
I'm admitting that I failed
and need God to clean my mess
When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are far too visible
But God believes I am worth it
When I say..."I am a Christian"
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartaches
So I call upon his name
When I say..."I am a Christian"
I'm not holer than thou
I'm just a simple sinner
Who received God's good grace, somehow.
happy sunday.

work re-cap part four
This week was pretty quiet. It didn't help that it was chilly and the Danforth was closed for Taste of The Danforth so most everyone in the area got their greek on and went there instead of swimming. What's up with that?!
Last thursday I was in the office when the pool door monitor "walkie-talkied" us and said that girls were stealing the quarters form the lockers. I ran out and into the change room where no girls were to be found. The pool door guy said that the girls ran out of the building but he couldn't stop them because he was busy with other people. I ran outside after them and as I turned the corner saw three girls counting their money. I asked if they were just in change room, instead of responding to me they ran away. As I "jogged" after them, the girls started booking it and ran into the near by forest. I ran back to grab my manager and he and two other guys went in to find them. The guys saw them but the girls ran away when another guard yelled for them to stop.
Long story short, we called the cops. The cops came by the next day and I had to give statements to a police officer. Then the city of toronto security officer came the day after and I had to give another statement. On top of that? A cop called my cell phone on tuesday!
Hopefully the girls will come back, because if we see them and cops come then the girls get to clean our pool for us! sweet.

What I'm loving wednesday
I'm loving that on saturday I got into a *new* ten pound range. Example: 160-169. Not my weight. I hope will never see the ten pound mark that I just passed. Does this make sense?! Bear with me.
~I'm loving that on monday I finally got to have lunch with an old co-worker. Micheala and I worked together for two years but this summer she worked in doors and I moved to outdoors. After weeks of cancelling on each other we finally saw each other! It was a lovely lunch, too short but we have plans to meet up before school starts.
~
I'm loving Friday Night Lights. A few twitter friends have been talking a lot about it so when boring old sunday evening rolled around, I watched ONE episode and I'm already hooked!
~
I'm loving that on sunday night I went for a run after 2.5ish months of not running! I took the car to work instead of biking 5km so I needed to do something active. I thought doing 2km would have me dying but I ended running for 3km and feeling really good! Hope I can keep it up.
~
I'm loving Jeremy Camp's music. I was flipping through my ipod the other day and forgot that I bought this CD. I love putting it on while I get ready in the morning and letting the powerful messages in the lyrics get me in a better mood for the day.
~
I'm loving Jesus! Enough said.
~
happy wednesday!

anniversary wishes...one day late
Dear mom and dad,
Yesterday was your 29th wedding anniversary. 29 years! Every year it amazes me when august 7th comes around. In a world where it seems like every couple splits when life gets tough, you two keep at it. Even though you two aren't perfect and have faults and do things that drive each crazy (ahem dad...let's put the tupperware away properly!) at the end of the day you love each other and thats what matters. To my brother and I, you are an example to us both. Knowing that when my brother gets married, you two will be 3 months away from your 30th anniversary is just amazing. Dad: thank you for showing me how a real man should treat a women. Mom: thank you for loving dad even when baseball is on. Most of all, thank you for showing me what a family should be like; together thru it all.
Happy belated Anniversary my little ginger and little mexican!

work re-cap part three
Since I didn't work last week these stories are from the week before.
That week I was able to pick up many "extended" shifts. This is when its really hot out and my boss allows the pool to be open till midnight, instead of closing at 8pm. I worked at my pool till 7:30 and would bike really fast across town to work. Working 12 hour days three times that week was a killer but worth it. All I have to say is once the sun goes down...the crazies come out.
It was 11pm, I working since 12 (noon) that day and ready to go home when a lady comes up to me on deck and says "theres a homeless women sleeping by the slide." Great, I thought. I calmly walk over and sure enough there is a women sleeping. Blankets pulled up so high only the top of her head was showing. I go back to my station and yell for the manager to come out. As he starts to come out the same lady keeps yelling "why is a homeless person sleeping here." I told her to not yell "homeless" as some people get offended. As my manager steps out I hear "WHY DID YOU SPLASH WATER ON ME?!" I turn around thinking that this women splashed water on her to wake her up. Then I hear "YOU GOT MY STUFF WET, MOM." Hold up. Did she say mom? Yup. Apparently her mom was the one who informed me about the "homeless" lady. She wanted to play a joke on her daughter but got me instead.
Ai yi yi. Crazy people.
~
The same night a group of friends were swimming by me and one friend went into the deep end. She yells out "its so warm here guys, it must be heated here." Um no it's not. There was no divider so it was the same water. Her friend asks me "is the water heated?" No, I reply. Then? She yells to her friend in deep end, "its because you peed!" At this point I lost it. Couldn't stop laughing! I guess you had to be there... :)

that week went fast!
I'm back! And I have to tell you, camp was awesome! As I said, week 3 was for kids ages 11-13. The kids were really awesome this week, the people in charge of running activities said that this was one of the best year for participation. Usually we have a bunch of kids who don't want to be active and would prefer to sit in the grass and watch.
It was so good to hang with friends who live all over Ontario, who came out this week as bible teachers, counselors, cooks and crafts. Us staff weren't allowed to have "staff night out" (we put the kids to bed and hang out in the dining hall till the late) but Friday night we went out and had some fun with the campers. Let's just say a few of the staff did some fun pranks! Shaving cream may or may not have been used...
Karen and I had a blast together. She was in cabin love and I was in faith. For the record: faith is the girls cabin that isn't joined to another one so it got scary at night, after hearing ghost stories!
It was an exhausting week. Waking up and 7am, going to bed at 11 (yes, its 8 hours but its non-stop all day) but it was worth it. Sharing God's love with kids who come from broken homes is the best feeling.
Not only was it a great week for the campers for their walk with God but for me too. All week I had to be an example of what a "Christian" does/doesn't do, which made me more accountable. Singing praises to God all week was what my soul needed.
Really really good girls.
They were close too. I had two sisters, two pairs of BFF's. The girl far right is from Korea. There were four other girls (all different cabins) who moved to Canada, came to camp and spoke no word of English. It was a challenge the first few days but slowly Jasmine learned her way around camp.
I miss camp very much. I have loved spending my summers there. Can't wait till next year and hopefully my girls (if they aren't 14) can come back!

I am so thankful Karen came out this week. We love week 3 :) I want to move over to teen week next year (ages 14-19) but I get the feeling she wants to stay at week 3. We still have months to talk about it.
camp omagh what what! |
The best thing about working at camp is the shirts. Staff get a free shirt that we have to wear the first day and last day (to help parents.) Last year we had a nice baby blue but the year before? Bright neon orange. They were so bright that no one wanted to wear it!
My girls were great! I've never had such a good group of girls before! The other counsellors were a little jealous when I told them that the girls always went to bed right away and never stayed up. They were very competitive for the "lights out first." Two bible teachers sit outside the boys and girls cabins and when the bell rings that signals time for bed, whatever cabins' lights are out first and quiet wins and gets lots of points.
After campfire I would stay outside and talk with some of the kids/staff and when I walked back to my cabin the girls were in bed ready for me to shut off their light! It wasn't even time for bed :)
Everyone year I get a picture of my cabin. Its nice to have to memories.
